Requirement 1: Mexico Tourist Card for Indians

Indian travelers need to complete the Forma Migratoria Multiple (FMM), also known as a Mexican Tourist Card.

This electronic travel authorization improves border security and facilitates immigration procedures.

Indians must print the completed Mexico FMM before traveling. On arrival in Mexico, immigration officials will stamp the Tourist Card. Visitors must keep the Tourist Card as it is also required on departure.

Travelers who lose their FMM or have it stolen while in Mexico must immediately contact local immigration authorities.

Requirement 2: Mexican Visa for Indian Tourists

As well as the FMM, Indian tourists also need a visa to travel to Mexico.

Mexico tourist visas for Indians are for tourism and other short-term recreational activities that do not involve paid employment. Indians can stay in Mexico for up to 180 days with a visitor visa.

Mexico visa applications are made in person. Required documents include a passport, photograph, proof of return travel and accommodation, and proof of financial means.

Since July 1, 2016, Indian citizens with a valid visa or residence permit for certain countries can enter Mexico without a separate Mexican visa. These countries are:

  • Canada
  • USA
  • Japan
  • The UK
  • Any Schengen country

This applies to stays of up to 180 days for tourism, business, or transit purposes.

If Indian do not have a visa or residence permit for one of the above countries, they need to apply for a Mexican visa.

Requirement 3: Visitax Mexico for Indian Citizens

If Indian citizens are visiting Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, or any other destination in Quintana Roo, they are required to pay the Visitax.

This is a mandatory tourism tax imposed by the local government for all foreign visitors, including nationals of India. Children must also be included in the Visitax payment.

Failure to pay the Visitax may lead to issues during the stay or when departing Mexico. To avoid delays or fines, it is recommended to complete the payment in advance.
